Description

Axial Power Schottky rectifier suited for Switch Mode Power Supplies and high frequency DC to DC converters. Packaged in DO-41 these devices are intended for use in low voltage, high frequency inverters, free wheeling, polarity protection and small battery chargers.

General

Schottky diodes are mostly used when low forward voltage drop or fast switching is required. These two features compete with each other, so that there are two type groups optimized for the respective purpose. The group with the low voltage drop has a higher leakage current in the reverse direction compared to standard diodes. In addition, high voltages are more difficult to realize. In this group, 1N5817 to 1N5819 have become standard types.

The 1N581x are typically packaged in the DO-41 axial through-hole case, and in many cases are interchangeable with the 1N4001 series. The 1N582x are typically packaged in the DO-201AD through-hole case, and in many cases are interchangeable with the 1N54xx series.

Being Schottky diodes, the 1N58xx parts have roughly half the forward voltage drop of the 1N400x/1N540x series diodes, which improves efficiency in applications where they are usually forward-biased, such as power converters. The cost is a lower voltage rating and higher reverse leakage (approximately 1 mA at room temperature and increasing with temperature).
